Class Philosophy and Objectives

What do artists do?

You are the artist.

The "classroom" is your art studio.

*Respect self, others & art materials.

*Take a break from your phone during Class Meetings.

*Be flexible.  You’ll never grow if you don’t try new things.

*BE YOURSELF.  Don’t try to be someone else because you will always fail.

  • All students will learn in this class that they can…

  • Work in a sketchbook to experiment and practice.

  • Engage in self-directed meaningful work.

  • Collaborate with classmates, friends, and your teacher.

  • Use technology to research ideas, find visual references, expand ideas about art, and create a digital portfolio to reflect on the process and the product.

  • Learn to recognize their own working style and appreciate the same of others.

  • Participate in class discussion about artwork.

  • Take responsibility for their own learning and participate during Class Meetings and Work Days.

Class Requirements

Students are considered tardy if not present when roll is taken.

If more than ten minutes late, students are considered absent. Students who accrue 5 or more tardies in a class period will be given a referral.

If absent for any reason, students are expected to make up the classwork or time working on projects.

Check Google Classroom for assignments missed and schedule a zoom meeting during the PM session.

Professionalism points will be deducted if student is late to class or absent without prior arrangement.

What you ‘do’ in Drawing & Painting

Start your artwork by making idea/composition sketches.

Chat with Mrs. Laufenburg about your ideas and use the supplies you have in your Art Supply kit or around the house.

Post pictures of your work on your Art Portfolio (Instagram, Blogger or Spark).

Finish the project with a written reflection using the Studio Habit Reflection Questions posted under the Classwork tab on Google Classroom.

TAKE PICTURES!

Take 1 picture of the idea sketches,

4 progress pictures from beginning to end,

1 picture of your experiments or revisions,

and 1 picture of reference photos or practice.

Finally, 1 picture of you with your finished artwork.

In other words, post 8 pictures (in order)

for every project on your Art Portfolio.
