Did we really draw?

Dear students,

Wow! Our first week has come to a close and it felt like a rollercoaster!
I think I experienced every emotion in one week that I usually feel over a school year as an Art teacher and a parent.
Excited!
Scared.
Proud.
Frustrated.
Exhausted.
Determined.
Sad.
Overwhelmed.
Hopeful.
Relieved.
It felt good to let everyone just draw.  I find this to be one of the BEST ways to start getting to know everyone.  A little bit of wildfire smoke won't stop us, while we wait to get art supplies in your hands - we WILL draw more! Here's one of my practice drawings...

Dear Drawing & Painting students,

I am excited and nervous for this school year!  Aren’t you?!?

It is my plan to give you a memorable online art experience.  You will get art supplies in your Art Kits.  You will have choices. You will get to create your artwork and share it with your audience.

You may want to get ready for our first couple weeks of class. We will be doing practice drawings.  Please collect 3-4 small objects of your choice.  The objects should be small enough to hold in one hand.  We will be making drawings of the objects that you choose.  You will also need paper and pencil. Any kind of paper and any kind of pencil will do.  You will not be getting your art supplies until the week of Sept. 14th.  So in the meantime, we will be doing many short activities so that we all can get used to the tech tools, get to know each other, and hopefully settle into how this will all work.

Although the usual plan has been edited, this art class is not the usual art class.  This year I ask that you be willing to engage in experimentation and contribute positive energy to our virtual environment.  My promise to all of you is that you will learn about yourself and your creative potential.  Your art skills will grow as long as you are willing to do the work and use every ounce of time.

Setting up for Distance Learning

Hello everyone,
This school year I will be posting all the DETAILS about Assignments and Projects on the Wa-Hi Art Room blog.  Everything else is found on Google Classroom.

I will be teaching from home, and really look forward to the journey we are all about to embark on.... getting to know each other, making artwork together, and sharing our amazing work with the world!  This moment in time is a life experience we will NEVER forget.
It is OUR JOURNEY OF A LIFETIME!

So, right now I will be making a lot of positive changes to the Wa-Hi Art Room - get ready!
